Sun, 24 Dec 2023 08:47:03 +0000 Think about what you get for 700$/€.

I am happy that when the "next spontaneous call" for a jam arrives I will be able to just grab a guitar and this Player and there I go..swuuush..out of the door..

I guess in the end it is really all about the size and the time you save for certain situations..and these situations are not "doing pro-/semipro things..".

Most likely all the situations I would like to have the player are about "having fun with my homies" somewhere with a FOH or an old FRFR waiting..

Why would I need tons of fx and more pedals for morphing for this; Highly unlikely.

Would I use the player for work in the studio or a bigger gig; No. This is why I have the rack and a extra laptop(for the studio) and the head/remote/3 EPs for "serious gigs".

Choose your weapons wisely.

And I am absolutely willing to pay 700€ to get this player just for having fun with my beloved rigs I use for years now. Even with half of the fx I never use.

Peace

<![CDATA[Kemper Drive and Kemper Fuzz - as a standalone pedal]]> . There are other multi effect units that give you a bunch of fuzz…]]> Sun, 24 Dec 2023 05:06:30 +0000 In general, the KpA effects are underrated. But the Kemper drive and Kemper fuzz are in my opinion unmatched, and id add them to a pedal board as well if I wanted to have a more trad board. There are other multi effect units that give you a bunch of fuzz models, but none that organize them in such a logical way. I’d put their delays and reverbs up with any others, having owned a H9 for a while. No doubt some units including the H9 offer certain unique complexities and quirks, but the best part of the KpA effects is that there is a certain logic and uniformity that runs through them; For example the controls and features share by all the delays, the ducking feature in almost all effects.

<![CDATA[Alternate modes for Player]]> Sun, 24 Dec 2023 03:57:39 +0000 Maybe this is a stupid request. Take with a grain of salt for a guy that probably won’t buy one because he owns a stage anyway. The biggest complaints seem to be that not all the effects and morph are available in the new Player. Though most seem to accept that certain dsp trade offs are neccesary for a particular price point.

One of the things I like about my Stage is the smooth transition between Rigs and spillover of wet effects and the Player does this too. Yet this MUST require a significant dedication of DSP. ( line 6 recently updated the Helix to give this feature, but it requires you to give up HALF of its Dsp!!!).

Point being, if the Player had mode with no spillover, this would provide significantly more dsp to allocate having all the effects including the advanced delays and reverbs. so if you turn this mode off, and any of the advanced effects in rigs would be grayed out and bypassed. But if you turn this mode on, then you could use the greater library of effects.

Or maybe just have the caveat that the advanced reverbs delays don’t spill over when you change rigs, and only the shortlist of simpler effects that are currently in the player do spill over?!

Perhaps this wouldn’t even be possible whether or not, it’s feasible to implement?

<![CDATA[USB MIDI]]>

Sun, 24 Dec 2023 00:12:04 +0000 @kpahuitsing: is this really intended to work? Does the USB-A port also send and receive usb midi messages?

In the manual it says: "Since OS 10.2 the USB connection used for Rig Manager and USB audio can be used for MIDI transmission, too. USB MIDI mirrors the functionality of the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT sockets." I thought the usb connection "used for rig manager and usb audio" was the USB-B port on the Kemper (so the one on the back of my Kemper Rack).

I'm asking since in my case, I can use my Line6 FBV Shortboard V2 to control my Kemper rack using my PC (by using a DAW to send MIDI USB commands from my FBV shortboard to my Kemper ), but I can't use my FBV shortboard directly connected to my USB-A connection from my Kemper Rack (the one in the front).

The USB-A port does power up my FBV Shortboard, but it does not seem to receive the USB midi commands to my FBV Shortboard. So I thought the USB-A port on the Kemper (Rack) did not work for USB midi (and only the USB-B in the back could be used for this).

If it does work: can I use this in combination with my FBV shortboard? I think my FBV shortboard is USB class compliant, since it immediately works as USB controller on f.e. an iPhone or Ipad. So if the USB-A on the Kemper (Rack) works for USB midi, would it also work with my FBV Shortboard? I don't have any USB-B to USB-B cable (and connecting two USB-B cables using a usb-A to usb-A adapter does not seem to work, this does not power up my FBV Shortboard, so I haven't been able to test this.

Another question: in case the Rack USB-A port in the front cannot be used for my FBV Shortboard, would the USB-A port on the new Kemper Player work? It seems in the manual for the Kemper Player, both USB ports can be used for USB midi? So the new Kemper Profiler Player would work in combination with a Line 6 FBV Shortboard v2?

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 23:02:44 +0000 Like you've said, the Kemper Player has no FX Loop. So you can't connect the HX with 4 cable method.

If you want to use FX's from the HX after the Kemper, then you should connect the Output from the Kemper with the Input from the HX and from there to a DI Box or Interface.

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 20:37:27 +0000

I bought a COAX/SPDIF converter, and my Kemper sounds a million times better using SPDIF into my Apollo Twin instead of TRS/TS. Until proven otherwise, I don't think I'm experiencing a problem. It's just that SPDIF sounds better than analog/digital conversion.

Yeah, you are skipping one round of digital->analog->digital conversion. So what you're actually saying, is the Apollo analog/digital conversion and audio signal circuits are better than on the Kemper (and that more conversions reduces quality). Which seems to make sense to me considering price of the two units and what they can do. Kemper has like 4x as many inputs/outputs but hardly costs a whole lot more.

<![CDATA[Hiwatt Liquid Profiles, and new Hi Power pedal.]]> Sat, 23 Dec 2023 19:36:27 +0000 Tesla's Frank Hannon moved from Marshalls to Hiwatts at some point over recent years, and after hearing the great rock tones he got out of them went on a bit of a HiWatt profile hunt - tried a bunch, and in the end Guidorist's merged pack (with Celestion G12M65 IR's) gave me exactly the sound I was after, and to this day some of my favourite Kemper profiles for any style.

Would be great to get a Hiwatt tonestack added at some point (and some liquid profiles), definitely great amps, and not just for classic The Who or Pink Floyd tones.

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 18:33:14 +0000 how are you monitoring the signal?

Are you experiencing the same issue when you listen through headphones connected to the Profiler headphone output?

Check your output source settings and make sure you use Master Mono or Master Stereo. Only these two will give you the full signal chain.

I have no idea how the issue you are reporting could be caused by using an expression pedal that is configured as a wah pedal though.

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 17:31:54 +0000

I'm trying to profile my Mig-50, and the Kemper just isn't matching the sound at all.

I did a "clean" profile and had no problems, except for the "Noise Gate Detected" (everybody I talk to apparently gets this error and they just ignore it.)

But when I set the amp a little hotter, on the breakup edge, the kemper can only profile it super clean or way too distorted and mushy. When I set the output to "Clean" on the Profiling Assistant, the profile I get back is way cleaner than the reference amp. I have the opposite problem when I set it to "Distorted," Where the profile comes out gross, mushy, and not like the reference amp at all.

Signal chain is Kemper - Amp - Loadbox - Kemper. No pedals, interfaces, DAWs etc. in between

What am I missing?

Clean profiles have this boomey bass thing an the distortion ch you can get, but it takes experimenting with the volumes. Some amps just profile great an some dont. I read negative feedback architectured amps have the issue

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 17:22:41 +0000

I agree with this, but I'm pretty happy with what the IR is doing to the sound in the DAW/in-ears. I think that is working exactly as it should. My issue is that adding any IR to a DI profile changes the Monitor Output sound to my real cabinet (even when Monitor Cab Off is selected).

This is what i am saying, it just not the same.
