My weird experiment. Got some odd 20 years dried pine blanks as a gift from my in-laws, so I had to use them for something. So I started with the idea of trying out how a P90 loaded Bass VI would sound like. Well it ended up as "not good" with P90's. Redid the pickups routes for EMG's and now it sounds fantastic.

6-strings, 30" scale, pine body, birch veneer top, maple neck, padauk board. Stainless frets, green glowy dots. Couple other experiments with this as well, again tried to rehearse my binding work, which ended not so good (again). I'll maybe redo the binding in the future. Also tried to do some inlays with my Aufero laser, which didn't work out very well either. The insides worked perfectly, but the board itself ended up taking some fire damage so I had to fill the gaps with CA and end result is not so pretty.

Oh well, it's a practice piece and it sounds good so enough for me.

Took over from my decade long Dual Rec profile favorite that I made from my rackmount rev G.

Pretty much all work great for metal rhythm guitar.

Thanks for checking it out guys! The midrange on mine is focused on the low mids, around 400-600Hz, where the EMG is around 1.2khz. I wouldn't call the EMG thin, just that these are very thick in comparison. :d

They all sound good to me, I like the first and last ones best. Nice riffage.

Thanks! It would be great to find someone to demo some faster stuff with these, I can only go for mid tempo swedish melodeath.

I've been working on some active pickup models for the past year, almost done now.

Just looking for some feedback on the tone. These are geared for heavier styles with high output and low noise.

    Supermassive Black Hole (Alnico 5)
Dark Matter Halo (lower wound, ceramic)
Tidal Disruption (alnico 5, blade pickup)

Differences are not huge, since it's the same guitar and amp settings for all.

Because I'm cheap, and don't want more boxes on my desk. Originally I tested this to check that a mic I was selling works before mailing it.

YMMV, my chain: sE V7 mic -> alt. input -> loop effect on D slot on the Kemper -> mic pre profile (exchange has Neve, API, Great River profiles) -> spdif out.

So far I've only tried low volume "singing" at home, but sound seems to be clear and nice. Enough for death metal vocs.

One more with slugs this time. Sounds pretty bold and punchy.

Another prototype, smoother less aggressive tone than the SMBH.

Handwound 15k DC resistance coils, alnico 5 magnet. Steel bar blades.

Thanks man! Any criticism? Now's the time, before I start making these to sell.

Here's a blind shootout between some prototypes.

I've been working for a while now on some handwound active pickups. First couple prototypes are done.

One more for the road. Same pickup as previously, just swapped the magnet for alnico 5. Ceramic has more 100Hz, and the mid peaks are slightly lower than on the A5.

Made another new pickup, everything else the same as the previous one but 42AWG wire, 6.4k DC. Maybe not so surprisingly this one has a tighter low end and less low mids.

The 44AWG 13.4kDC pickup has more lows and low mids.
