Sun, 24 Dec 2023 08:47:03 +0000 Think about what you get for 700$/€.

I am happy that when the "next spontaneous call" for a jam arrives I will be able to just grab a guitar and this Player and there I go..swuuush..out of the door..

I guess in the end it is really all about the size and the time you save for certain situations..and these situations are not "doing pro-/semipro things..".

Most likely all the situations I would like to have the player are about "having fun with my homies" somewhere with a FOH or an old FRFR waiting..

Why would I need tons of fx and more pedals for morphing for this; Highly unlikely.

Would I use the player for work in the studio or a bigger gig; No. This is why I have the rack and a extra laptop(for the studio) and the head/remote/3 EPs for "serious gigs".

Choose your weapons wisely.

And I am absolutely willing to pay 700€ to get this player just for having fun with my beloved rigs I use for years now. Even with half of the fx I never use.

Peace

Sun, 24 Dec 2023 00:12:04 +0000 @kpahuitsing: is this really intended to work? Does the USB-A port also send and receive usb midi messages?

In the manual it says: "Since OS 10.2 the USB connection used for Rig Manager and USB audio can be used for MIDI transmission, too. USB MIDI mirrors the functionality of the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT sockets." I thought the usb connection "used for rig manager and usb audio" was the USB-B port on the Kemper (so the one on the back of my Kemper Rack).

I'm asking since in my case, I can use my Line6 FBV Shortboard V2 to control my Kemper rack using my PC (by using a DAW to send MIDI USB commands from my FBV shortboard to my Kemper ), but I can't use my FBV shortboard directly connected to my USB-A connection from my Kemper Rack (the one in the front).

The USB-A port does power up my FBV Shortboard, but it does not seem to receive the USB midi commands to my FBV Shortboard. So I thought the USB-A port on the Kemper (Rack) did not work for USB midi (and only the USB-B in the back could be used for this).

If it does work: can I use this in combination with my FBV shortboard? I think my FBV shortboard is USB class compliant, since it immediately works as USB controller on f.e. an iPhone or Ipad. So if the USB-A on the Kemper (Rack) works for USB midi, would it also work with my FBV Shortboard? I don't have any USB-B to USB-B cable (and connecting two USB-B cables using a usb-A to usb-A adapter does not seem to work, this does not power up my FBV Shortboard, so I haven't been able to test this.

Another question: in case the Rack USB-A port in the front cannot be used for my FBV Shortboard, would the USB-A port on the new Kemper Player work? It seems in the manual for the Kemper Player, both USB ports can be used for USB midi? So the new Kemper Profiler Player would work in combination with a Line 6 FBV Shortboard v2?

We have for example testet a Behringer FCB 1010 (with Uno4Kemper) connected to a Player via a cheap USB-MIDI-Interface. and found no functional limitations.

<![CDATA[Horizon Drive Doesnt Sound Right To Me.]]> Thu, 21 Dec 2023 09:10:48 +0000 @Kellerblues is correct. The Kemper Drive is modelled on the Tube Screamer style circuit (as are all of the OD models with presets such as Klon, Blues Driver, Full Drive etc) whereas other OD effects like the Full OD are based on totally different circuits. The TS style circuit includes a portion of clean signal as part of its design. You can’t get rid of it on the real pedals either. As a result these OD pedals are designed to work with an already overdriven (or at least on the edge of breakup) amp rather then clean. The little bit of clean signal pushes the amp without making it too muddy. This means they don’t really sound their best with a clean amp. It’s just the way they were designed.

:D I believe they do know... A lot. It's common digital audio knowledge, my implication.

The Kemper Profiler USB Audio should support all sample rates. For all users needs. It should not be a compromise.

I don't use the Kemper as an audio interface so it doesn't matter to me; I don't use the S/PDIF either.. I'm using a 32 channel digital mixer. Just a short time ago the Kemper didn't even have USB audio and I never gave it a second thought. The mixer can operate at 44.1 or 48 but I still use 44.1 because of the devices mentioned in my previous post and my ear doesn't hear the difference anyway. Looks like for now if you have to have higher sample rates your only options are to use S/PDIF or invest in gear that can handle it.

Using a 1/4 ping-pong delay seems to help get the stereo wider to simulate a more slow panning effect. BUT again, it's still too fast from what I had before.

I hate to say it because I know it's been requested before but a speed control on the Rotary and Tremolo effect would make life easier.

I don't know what else to try. The tone is there! just not the right panning speed.

<![CDATA[Stage Pedal Board Case build.]]> I also wasn't sure what to do with the Kemper Stage for…]]> Thu, 14 Dec 2023 16:29:15 +0000 I was transitioning from a pedal board+tube preamp/rack fx. After setting up the Kemper Stage, I still needed two pedals plus my vocal pedal, but I didn't need the big 26"/66cm pedal board case.
I also wasn't sure what to do with the Kemper Stage for transport, so I initially bought a pelican style case for it, but wasn't happy because it's a useless case other than for transport.
I really liked the Thomann cases, they looked really nice, but wasn't willing to order from Europe and pay the $200 just for the convenience.
Instead, I looked for a smaller version of the case/briefcase that I could use for the remaining pedals, and decided to cannibalize my old Coffin Black Kross case to fit the Kemper. Nothing off the shelf in an aluminum briefcase would quite fit the Kemper. Everything I could find was about 1 inch short in width. And anything dedicated for guitarists was too wide and not deep enough.
The Coffin Case Black Kross pedal case was 26x12(66x30.5) just right for the kemper if I shortened it.

I had to be careful to cut all the pieces correctly so I can re-use everything:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18674/

I re-riveted it all back together:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18676/

Then, to figure out how to permanently and safely mount the Kemper into the tray. I used a 1/2" plywood covered with 2mm EVA foam and some black felt for nice looks, and then used longer screws (keeping the rubber feet of the Kemper still in place, so there's air space under it) to mount it all the way through the base board:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18675/

Then after pressing the whole thing into the lid, I secured the wood to the case lid with 4 screws around the outside:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18671/

Finally, for the remaining pedals I needed to keep in my rig, I bought an off-the-shelf briefcase, removed the rear hinges and added 2 more latches, then re-used the pedal board ramp that used to be inside the Coffin case and fit it into the new briefcase:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18677/

A trick I learned a long time ago for attaching pedals is to use a Bicycle Chain, break it apart and use all the tiny links as screw mounts for the pedals:
kemper-amps.com/wbb/attachment/18673/

This will be my final rig setup:
