I can't speak for mobile devices as I've never used or owned one, but on my Mac, if I hover over the top-left corner where it says this:

... it reveals this:

... so I can choose to see unread posts.
However, if I just click on the word "Forum" in this one:

... it takes me straight to where you were asking we be directed. It's always-there, top-left-of-page.
Maybe it's different on "devices"?
On my mobile device (Android) when going into a thread, there is a link (red) on top of the page that redirects you to either the Private our Public main forum page, depending which forum you entered.
Display MoreHi schludi - you can either click on "Go to to page top" link in right bottom corner to go to the top of the page (as the link label says )
Or you can press Ctrl+Home (On Windows) to do the same
From there, you can easily go to the forum homepage.

but Monkey_Mans tip to click on "Forum" in the upper left button does exactly what I missed.

I discovered it by accident. I initially thought it was just the menu header but my twitchy fingers accidentally triggered a mouse click on it once and I was pleasantly-surprised.
