Sat, 23 Dec 2023 23:02:44 +0000 Like you've said, the Kemper Player has no FX Loop. So you can't connect the HX with 4 cable method.

If you want to use FX's from the HX after the Kemper, then you should connect the Output from the Kemper with the Input from the HX and from there to a DI Box or Interface.

I bought a COAX/SPDIF converter, and my Kemper sounds a million times better using SPDIF into my Apollo Twin instead of TRS/TS. Until proven otherwise, I don't think I'm experiencing a problem. It's just that SPDIF sounds better than analog/digital conversion.

Yeah, you are skipping one round of digital->analog->digital conversion. So what you're actually saying, is the Apollo analog/digital conversion and audio signal circuits are better than on the Kemper (and that more conversions reduces quality). Which seems to make sense to me considering price of the two units and what they can do. Kemper has like 4x as many inputs/outputs but hardly costs a whole lot more.

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 18:33:14 +0000 how are you monitoring the signal?

Are you experiencing the same issue when you listen through headphones connected to the Profiler headphone output?

Check your output source settings and make sure you use Master Mono or Master Stereo. Only these two will give you the full signal chain.

I have no idea how the issue you are reporting could be caused by using an expression pedal that is configured as a wah pedal though.

I'm trying to profile my Mig-50, and the Kemper just isn't matching the sound at all.

I did a "clean" profile and had no problems, except for the "Noise Gate Detected" (everybody I talk to apparently gets this error and they just ignore it.)

But when I set the amp a little hotter, on the breakup edge, the kemper can only profile it super clean or way too distorted and mushy. When I set the output to "Clean" on the Profiling Assistant, the profile I get back is way cleaner than the reference amp. I have the opposite problem when I set it to "Distorted," Where the profile comes out gross, mushy, and not like the reference amp at all.

Signal chain is Kemper - Amp - Loadbox - Kemper. No pedals, interfaces, DAWs etc. in between

What am I missing?

I had this with a modified Carvin i went to a reheasal space and DI profiled it at volume. Kemper box an all. Some amps just do not want to profile right. This Carvin Valvemaster 2 was one of them. Clean profiles have this boomey bass thing an the distortion ch you can get, but it takes experimenting with the volumes. Some amps just profile great an some dont. I read negative feedback architectured amps have the issue

Thanks, guys,

I did not mute the track in my DAW when monitoring.

Not really for me. Everything works fine.

Did you mute the track in your DAW while recording? And did you activate "Direct Monitor" in the Output Settings of your Kemper?

As @Bakersounds said, the most like cause is phase cancellation because you are hearing the direct sound along with the DAW signal which is delayed a few milliseconds. You need to either turn off the direct signal and only monitor the DAW sognal 9there will be some latency this way) or turn off the monitoring via the DAW and just listen to the direct signal while tracking.

Thanks, guys,

I did not mute the track in my DAW when monitoring.

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 12:44:11 +0000 Yes, the combo funcitons are not ready yet and therefore greyed out.

The Effect Button I-IIII assignments, which are virtually available at the Player and can be triggered via built-in buttons or MIDI, are also not complete yet. The Player applies these if Rigs from other models get imported, but you cannot freely assign these yet. It takes an assignment function in the Editor to for example assign Freeze of the REV module to Effect Button II. So far you can only assign FX 1 and/or FX 2 to an Effect Button at the Player hardware. Example: You have used the Editor to assign module A to FX 1 and module DLY to FX 2 and stored this in your Rig. If your foot switch 2 is still configured as Effect Button I (default), you could now press the button of FX 1 and foot switch 2 simultanously and that foot switch will toggle module A on/off in that Rig. You could add FX 2 by holding its button and foot switch 2 simultaneously. Now foot switch 2 will toggle module A and DLY either in sync or inversely depending on their current state - like an Effect Button at a Remote/Stage would do. But this is not the full capacity of the EFfect Buttons,. which is planned for the new future.

If you simply turn off every effect after the amp section, it will be mono.

You can also use Double Tracker effect on the rythm guitar. That emulates multiple players playing the same.

Oh wow I did not know. Gotta try that out as well. Thanks!

if you want to use the XLR outputs of the Stage you should use XLR to TRS cables. All the other outputs are unbalanced and should be connected with TS cables.

<![CDATA[So, I bought a Quad Cortex]]> Fri, 22 Dec 2023 19:43:38 +0000 I have an old Kemper Head. I have not had a chance to try QC or Fractal or Helix hardware, so I cannot tell about the difference. I read everywhere about the "Kemper sound". I have not heard it in my unit so far, maybe it is because I did not try any of the above side by side.

What I have started though is to use the Kemper via digit i/o and use my Focusrite Clarett+ IOs for guitar in and monitor out. This is in my bedroom studio only. I find it much better, and it actually sounds stellar to me. Few comparisons I tried since I have been using it like that are some plugins. Free ToneX player with factory captures, Helix AU plugin, Logic Pro X amp emulations. My verdict on sound quality: 1. Kemper, 2. ToneX, 3. Logic 4. Helix. None other than the Kemper has the harmonics as an amp has. If you play anything on the Kemper on higher notes, you hear as if the strings you play on were thicker physically. It's thick and harmonic rich.

I would be quite curious to compare the Kemper with better external preamps and converter to QC and some newer Fractal units (Axe-FX III or FM3). This would tell a lot about the real tone properties of the algorithms themselves.
