Does anyone know how to get a (modern metal) tone like this?

I can't answer why you are not getting the sounds you like, but can it sound like a real amp? Totally.

The key bits for me are:

1) The right profiles are key - people start making big changes in EQ when the fundamental profile is not right. Professional profiles do not guarantee great results. Can you get any decent sounds or are they all duff/digital sounding? I would do a reset and start again if you've made lots of eq changes.

2) Test at volume - a profile is never going to sound like a valve at full tilt at bedroom volumes

3) Try to ignore that its digital. I kept thinking I couldn't get a great sound, particularly a 5150 sound. I then tried a 5150 and realized I didn't like the real amp itself. I have never had so many compliments on my live sound, particularly from sound engineers.

4) Basics sorted? i.e. cab section is switched on ? Can you get a reasonable sound via headphones? Try to trouble shoot but eliminating elements from your sound. Can you record your sound and post on here?

Just remember though, the emphasis from the KPA is Studio/FOH sound not amp in the room. Can you get a good sound via a PA or in the studio?

Also, cabs are such a massive part of the sound, power amp not so much so have a look at that ( although it wouldn't make it digital sounding and the Mesa is obviously a good cab).

Not everyone bonds with the KPA, but so many users get great sounds. It shows that there are so many parts to the sound in the signal chain.

thank you so much for your advice, I'm finding out that the profiles do sound a lot better when they are loud, I just uploaded some profiles from STL ( angel vivaldi pack) I am digging the Diezel herbet profile. I haven't had the chance to play with the EQ yet, I will spend next weekend going through profiles and tinkering with the EQ. I will also consider on getting a tube power amp later on down the line.

I will see if I can post a recording this weekend with a screenshot of my settings. I did record something with my cell phone and the weird thing is that it sounds really close to a real amp in the recording but listening to it as I am playing I can hear that "digital" tone

Yes! I experienced this, you can convince yourself its digital sounding because you know its digital rather than it actually being digital. I experience this when someone plays my rig, they sound so much better than me!

Accepts album Stalingrad was probably the first(at least metal record)or one of the first albums that used a kemper. From an interview with guitar world:

Here’s a little-known secret: I recorded the whole album with a Kemper Profiling Amplifier

I honestly haven’t plugged any of them in for more than 10 minutes each since I got the Kemper. Any time I do a side by side comparison I always end up liking the profiles at least as much (sometimes more) than my real amps.

I had Splawns, Dual Recs, 5150s, Line 6, Engle Powerball2 Engle Morse and more. When I realized I could easily get the sounds of all of them in a unit I can carry around like a shopping basket I sold EVERYTHING except my vintage gear. I don't care if there ever is a KEMPER II as My Kemper sounds better than all the amps I have ever used. I just wish I would have had the Kemper $30,000 worth of amps ago.

Which one sounds better to you?

They all sounds fine. I'm very tired and my ears are tired too. Was there a bass there buried low in there I heard or just my imagination? Bass does so much for the guitar tone. Especially in metal.

Yes there is a bass ...I'll try to play with the bass and the guitars a bit to make them fit better.

And editing. Yes editing existed long before computers.

The clips sound like there's a lot of low midrange buildup. Try cutting around 300-500Hz. Usually it's too much 300Hz that sounds the worst.

OP, you didn't tell your monitoring setup? If your listening environment isn't up to par no advice online can overcome that.
