I'd love to have a bassist that can cover that wide a range of tones successfully. I don't know of a single bassist here with a KPA.
I'm definitely not anti-complexity when it's done right. I've just had a few experiences with players that are all over the place tonally. When you go see Flea or other iconic bass players they work within certain parameters for a show. I think cover bands are similar - you want some consistency in the rhythm section during the show.
For the record I've been a bassist longer than a guitarist and I'm passionate about it. I've always tried hard to not be a typical guitarist/bassist and I approach them completely differently.
I only play Bass but play in 2 Tribute Bands (Pearl Jam and Janes Addiction) and a few other cover bands... the kemper is perfect for my needs...now only if I can find an octaver in the kemper to replicate a 12 string bass sound that would be perfect and I can get rid of my TC subNup pedal.

I played at a party on the weekend (good friends, not a gig) and there was a nice stage and excellent PA. At one point someone launched into a song but the bassist was gone (it was a bit of a drunken night). I just reached back, pressed the Rig button and dialed the transpose down to -12. I was floored at how much it sounded like a bass. The looks from the other 2 guitarists were priceless. Like "wow I'm drunk".

I have an emergency fake bass rig set up, just in case I need it to help cover a temporary issue.

If I had to create a transpose stomp I wouldn't have managed it on that dark stage in my condition. Love the Kemper updates!

Traditionally, most bass players arrive at a sound that works for them and stick with it.
Because otherwise the sound engineer will likely get on their case for making them faff about too much with the mixing desk settings! Shifting between pickups should be enough for most songs and use a comp after any bass synth pedals to limit the low end boost.

The FOH mixer works for us.
not the other way round.
