I registered as a "public" user as I don't have my unit yet, although it is on order. How do I upgrade my account so I can post in the private area once my unit has arrived as I can't see anywhere in the member profile to do this ?

Probably the best way would be to PM G-String (admin) with the serial nr. of your unit...
