I actually feel embarrassed to label it Jazz as I know the incredible skill of real Jazz musicians and I have absolutely none of that, I just have my fingers crossed that I don't get called out too badly on it, I'm just trying to nail the sound of those classic 60's Jazz records that I love, especially stuff like Kenny Burrell, Brubeck etc.
So it's all sort of a bunch of production fakery - fading piano's far enough into the BG that you can't tell just how horrible they are, the bass is almost non-existant on this one, the drums are BFD using midi preset loops (the only part I don't play myself), the guitars are just me improvising something and trying to get the rough sonic texture that I recognize as being related to the sound that I love.
So, yeah it's really all fake, me being lazy, not skilled at all, and really it's more one of those catharsis/need a way to wind down things that I quickly knock out from time to time. I have to work much harder at other genres that I would prefer to have aptitude at but apparently can't do as well. Sometime I need to sit down and go through all the thousands of really great tutorials out there on mixing/engineering/producing pop, rock and heavier tones.
When the overall mood works ( like this does) none of it is fake anymore
